When People Expect You To Be A Certain Way And You Begin To Question Yourself
There are moments when the expectations of others weigh so heavily on us that we start to lose sight of who we really are. I have been there too … feeling like I have to live up to a specific image, a role, or a label that others have created for me. The โcreative,โ the โhustler,โ the โalways-onโ person everyone expects me to be. And for a long time, I tried to meet those expectations every single day, pushing myself even when I felt drained or uninspired.
But today, I feel blank. No fresh ideas, no clear goals, no energy to keep up with the usual pace. It is confusing and uncomfortable. I begin to question myself … Am I failing? Am I less capable than I thought? Am I disappointing people who rely on me?
What I have learned is that it is okay to feel this way. It is okay to pause and to be uncertain sometimes. Feeling blank does not mean you are broken or weak. It simply means you are human. It is part of the natural rhythm of life, where moments of stillness prepare us for the next phase of growth.
When we constantly try to live up to the expectations of others, we risk losing our own voice and creativity. We forget that our worth is not measured by how productive or how consistent we are. It is found in our authenticity and our ability to embrace every part of our journey, even the quiet, unclear moments.
So if you are feeling blank today, if you are doubting yourself because you donโt fit the mold others expect, take a deep breath and remind yourself that this too is part of your story. Give yourself permission to rest, reflect, and reconnect with your true self.
In the silence, you will find clarity again.
What do you do when you feel this way? How do you reconnect with your own rhythm?
